Facts about home language tuition

First or home language is a subject by its own right both in compulsory school and in upper secondary school and has a curriculum like any other subject.

Pre-schools First language tuition for groups of three to five children.
Primary school Mother-tongue teachers give support or translate within the regular class.
Lower secondary school Mother-tongue teachers

 

Compulsory school

Native language tuition: approx. 3 to 5 pupils/group
Support: approx. 2 to 5 pupils/group (outside or within regular class)

 

Upper secondary school

Native language tuition: Approx. 5-15 pupils/group (sometimes including pupils from forms 8-9) from different programsApprox. 5-15 pupils/group (sometimes including pupils from forms 8-9) from different programs
Support: approx. 3 to 5 pupils/group

Organization of home language tuition:

Elementary and lower secondary school: Within or outside scheduled school days
Forms 6-9: Mostly outside scheduled school daysHome language as a language option is provided if the school time table allows it, and if there are at least 5 pupils.
Upper secondary school: Outside scheduled hours, as an individual option or as a further language beside Swedish and English. There are three categories of credits for the mother-tongue in upper secondary school i.e. A, B and "Active bilingualism" with en total credits of 250.

Mother-tongue course B: 100 credits
